TK Commercials – Website

My latest project is a website I made for Karl Lanigan and Ted Toomer, owners and vehicle mechanics at TK Commercials – a HGV, van and car servicing and repair workshop located near the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Their site is now online and can be viewed at www.tkcommercials.co.uk

There are plans for further development of the website, such as some photos of the workplace, more information and details.

Embedding Flickr Photos

Log onto your Flickr Account and click on your photo of choice until a greyed out menu appears across the top edge of the picture, press “all sizes” and chose your size.

(On the photos above on this page I had to have “medium” 500×333, as the next one down would have been too small for the size (h=276 w=431) I wanted in order to fit it on the page. Scaling down is ok, but be careful the other way around as it will affect the quality on your photo.)

Copy the recommended code and paste into post, make sure it goes in the Code part on your Blog and save.

Well, there you have it, all done. Maybe add a comment under your Flickr photo as this is the page that comes up if you click on the photos you just embedded in your WordPress Post.

Online file storage and sharing

Some of my photos are uploaded to www.humyo.com one of many online file storage/sharing web sites. I joined Humyo recently, which has only been running since 2007 and chose the free option which is providing a great service. It is like having a second hard drive online. Any file type can be uploaded (even .swf files that caused me so much trouble not long ago) and because the content is online it can be accessed from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection. A payable upgrade is available.

Our current assignment is 123SLL – Object Oriented Programming, and the need for easy access and file sharing has continued as we are working in groups and prepare bitmaps and animated gifs for a Flash Game with actionScript.

Humyo is my personal preference on this very useful Web 2.0 tool, check it out!

Depth of Field

These two photos are taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ20.

In Photoshop; photo filter/cooling filter 80 has been applied to the sky. The colours and contrast are slightly enhanced using Curves and Hue/Saturation.

Left image: f stop/larger aperture value – 3.3, faster shutter speed – 1/320 sec – Less (detail) depth of field

Right image: f stop/smaller aperture value – 6.5, slower shutter speed – 1/80 sec – Greater (detail) depth of field

Both set at ISO200
Focus is at the leaves in the foreground so focal length and shooting distance is the same, which is why it is the background that loses depth of field as the aperture value goes down/wider aperture.
